You'll learn how to design your own arrangement using succulent plants, and will receive expert tips on propagation, care, and keeping your plants thriving long after the workshop ends.

All supplies are included, including up to 10 succulents per attendee, soil, containers, and gloves. Prefer a more personal touch? Learn how to solar dye silk fabric with natural dyes! This technique will also work on yarns and other fabrics, but we will be dyeing silk in class. Use flowers, leaves, and other natural dye materials to create your own glass solar dye jar that you’ll take home and leave in a sunny window to finish your silk scarf dye project. All materials provided! We will be using fresh beautiful plants and flowers including ones generously provided by Middlebrook Farm in Cumming, Iowa, Tuesday August 25th, 6:30-7:30 PM. Class will be held outdoors in a shady area.

Chef and food scientist Mary Jane Miller will be cooking at the Middlebrook Farmhouse for a summer cooking class celebrating the best flavors of the season. Mary Jane has cooked for three Minnesota governors and developed recipes for Betty Crocker Test Kitchens, Pillsbury, Food Network, and Target Corporation. Today, she lives on her Iowa farm surrounded by chickens, gardens, and honeybees, drawing inspiration from the ingredients growing just outside her door.

She will show you how to prepare and enjoy fresh summer dishes including Sweet Corn Gazpacho, Grilled Watermelon and Feta Salad, Cantaloupe with Prosciutto and a Honey Balamic Reduction, a Late Summer Garden Saute featuring what ever looks good at the farm. There will be wine pairings with each dish provided by Delicato Family Wines.

If you are looking for a welcoming, all-levels yoga summer series, look no more! Join Darcey Noyce, RYT-500, this summer at Middlebrook Farm for some movement, breathing and community.

Bring your yoga mat/towel and a water bottle for this gentle, all-levels yoga practice. Class will be 45 minutes on Saturday mornings and 60 minutes on Monday evenings. Class will take place on the open grassy area just east of the farmhouse.

Up-to-date weather announcements will be sent via email at least an hour before start time, which is why it is important to pre-register! There is no backup plan for inclement weather so class will be cancelled, and your ticket purchase will be fully refunded.

Cancellation policy: all sales are final. In the event of an emergency, please reach out to Darcey at darceyoga8@gmail.com.

The program will focus on writing grocery lists, completing a meal plan, using grocery store ads, and using other resources to support healthy eating.

Book a 60-minute contrast therapy session and cycle between a traditional wood-fired sauna (up to 200 degrees F), cold plunge (around 50 degrees F), and intentional rest.
Wellness should feel alive and should encompass the whole person and their community.

Imagine a kitchen—not just any kitchen—but Cyclone Kitchen, a place where Iowans of all ages learn to cook with confidence, nourish their bodies, and connect through food. That vision is coming to life in Indianola with a two‑hour Cyclone Kitchen event hosted on September 10 at the Warren County Extension Office located at 200 W. 2^nd Avenue in Indianola.

Cyclone Kitchen is a community teaching kitchen led by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, designed to help participants build confidence and joy in the kitchen. Each two‑hour session blends nutrition science with hands‑on cooking to help Iowans turn healthy intentions into everyday habits. Participants work together to prepare dishes, practice skills, and learn adaptable techniques in a welcoming, supportive environment.

“Cyclone Kitchen is about far more than recipes,” said Dr. Sarah L. Francis, professor and state Extension and outreach specialist in food and health. “We’re building confidence, curiosity, and connection in the kitchen. When people feel capable and supported, healthy cooking becomes something they want to do—not something they feel they should do.”

The Indianola Cyclone Kitchen event will focus on Meal Prep Masters, with participants preparing Make Ahead Breakfast Burritos, Tex Mex Quinoa Salad, Chicken Corn and Rice Casserole, Seasoned Roasted Vegetables, Chicken Burrito Bowl, and Mango Salsa during the session. Early participants in pilot events praised the interactive format. “I learned multiple new skills right away,” shared one attendee. Another noted, “I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it and how confident I felt cooking.”

“Cyclone Kitchen shows that cooking can be joyful, practical, and empowering,” said Francis. “When we cook together, we don’t just nourish our bodies—we strengthen our communities.”

Join us for "Cut and Create", beginner floral design workshop with The Budding Optimist! Learn to design a bouquet “in hand”, in the garden!

Let your creativity bloom with this beginner floral design workshop! Learn to create a simple floral arrangement in hand, cut directly from the flower field at Middlebrook Farm.

Sarah will walk you through how to choose and design cut flowers "in hand", a technique you are sure to reach for again and again. Learn to balance different flower shapes, textures and color while building your own bouquet. Best practices for harvest and stem care will also be discussed.

Each month will bring a unique in season experience and flowers will vary.

Cost of this workshop is $30.00* and includes a variety of flowers and mason jar. Snips will be available for use. Registration is required through eventbrite and a ticket is required for each participant.

Join food scientist and chef Mary Jane Miller in the Middlebrook Farmhouse for an afternoon of cooking, tasting, and sipping. Mary Jane will demonstrate cozy fall farm to table recipes with wine pairings, featuring what is in season at the farm.
Mary Jane has cooked for three Minnesota governors and developed recipes for Betty Crocker Test Kitchens, Pillsbury, Food Network, and Target Corporation. Today, she lives on her Iowa farm surrounded by chickens, gardens, and honeybees, drawing inspiration from the ingredients growing just outside her door.
